About Us

BUDISM COUTURE was founded by Budi Adji and Philipp Althof in Hong Kong in 2014 and quickly expanded to a global market, with a loyal client base in Asia, Europe and Middle East.

The house specialises in exquisite and delicately hand-embroidered gowns for all occasions, alongside daywear couture and accessories.

All dresses are custom made entirely by hand, employing unique techniques passed down through generations.

The house has established close working relationships with centuries-old ateliers in Paris that produce for the large French haute couture houses, and select artisans across the world, thereby giving clients access to the best the couture industry has to offer.

Budi Adji

Budi Adji is among a coterie of young, dedicated talent carrying on the vocation of true haute couture today. A fervour for all things beautiful and a fascination for fine handmade pieces have steered Budi towards a lifelong involvement in sketching, design, tailoring and embroidery, yet his greatest passion lies in haute couture. Budi’s approach to his work is careful and considered. Nothing escapes his razor-sharp eye for detail.

Budi has always loved making things. his childhood memories are of endless days filled with creating, crafting, drawing and sculpting. Blessed with a deft hand and a curious mind, he trained himself in the tools and techniques of needlecraft and knitting.  Throughout his teenage years a favourite pastime was poring through rare and out-of-print books, immersing himself in the intricacies of the couturier’s art. His exhaustive art and fashion library continues to expand to this day.

During his studies at Central St. Martins and Kingston University in the UK, Budi won sponsorships and prizes from the British Fur Trade Association, Saga Furs of Denmark, Thomas Pink and Abercrombie & Fitch. Upon graduation, Budi’s creations represented the UK at REMIX, the International Fur Federation’s annual design competition in Milan. He was selected by Hugo Boss for their global talent pool programme and remained with the firm for five years in Switzerland before being posted to Hong Kong and China.

The colourful world of multiculturalism in which Budi was born and raised translates into all of his designs. Originally hailing from Indonesia, he has called many countries home: Singapore, United Kingdom, Switzerland, South Africa, Hong Kong and China. His adventurous soul has lead him to explore, discover and learn wherever he goes. Inspirations may spring from a quiet walk in nature or a jog in the city. He accumulates his treasury of colours, textures and shapes from flowers, birds, sunsets, oceans, meadows.
